After playing eight events already this season, including three in row to finish our most recent stretch, we have had two well deserved weekends off of competing leading into the grand slam in Kelowna. The time off was nice to recharge our batteries, take a bit of a mental break, and perhaps most importantly to work hard on our fitness levels.
Our team spent countless hours in the offseason improving our fitness levels, but with how busy we are during the competitive season it is tough to do anything more than just maintenance once the season starts. Having these two weeks off allowed us to meet with our trainer to jump-start things a bit.
We are really looking forward to the upcoming event in Kelowna, which is the second leg in the Grand Slam of Curling series. The first Grand Slam event in Brantford back in November was in many ways a breakout event for this new team. We played the best we had all season and managed to make it to the semi-finals, earning us some much needed points on our quest to qualify for the 2013 Olympic pre-trials and trials.
After Kelowna, we have a kids camp in Prince Albert on December 19th. We always enjoy these types of opportunities to give back to the sport. Following that we have another short break over the Christmas season then we will be returning to the Perth Masters event in Scotland the first week in January.
We can't wait to get back to work and continue progressing on what has been an exciting first season together as a team.
