Hello everybody we just got back from the National presented by Syncrude. The National was the third leg of the four Grand Slams of the curling season. This year it was held in Fort Mcmurray, Alberta and was one of the best slams we have played in. The event was very well organized and with all of the volunteers and new sponsors it was a great success.

This Grand Slam was played with the five rock rule, the only difference with this is teams are unable to remove any guards for the first five rocks. With the five rock rule it creates an environemnt with every end being exciting with lots of rock around the 4 foot area. With all of the positive feedback from the curlers and fans the Grand Slams are using it in the final Grand Slam of the year at the Players Championship in Summerside P.E.I.

We started our event with our first game against Jeff Stoughton. We controlled the whole game and were able to pull off the win in an extra end with a good draw by Steve. Next up we had Kevin Martin and played a great game but came up short when Kevin hit the button for the win. The next day we had two games playing Mike McEwen and the Japanese team. We lost to McEwen but in a must win against the Japanese team we pulled out another extra end win. On Saturday morning we played the young Brennan Botcher Team and pulled out a big win to set up another battle with the 13-0 (5 rock rule record) Mike McEwen in the quarterfinals. We played a very good game and came away with a win. We then battled against Glen Howard and it was a back and forth game but just fell short.

We have had a very successful past three weeks including the Tim Horton’s Brier coming in a tie for fifth place and now adding our results at the Grand Slam getting third place. We have one more event left this season at the Players Championship, which consists of the top 15 teams in the world. Thank you all for following along and we hope to play well in Summerside P.E.I.
